Walking

Quiet lanes and paths twist through the Otter valley and there’s a circular walk(number 4)  to Upottery village that you can join from Twistgates.

The Blackdown Hills offer a huge selection of walks.

Walk part of the South Coast Path or head inland along the East Devon Way.

Explore Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor National Park

Work up an appetite and walk to one of the two local pubs in the area, the Sidmouth Arms in Upottery and the York Inn at Churchinford. Take circular routes straight from the front doors of the cottages along very quiet lanes, where you're unlikely to meet much, if any, traffic, the banks are filled with wild flowers and grass often grows down the middle of the road, or cut across fields and along public footpaths. Both pubs serve good food and will warmly welcome you, your family and your dog.

The Cottages

Self catering holiday accommodation is offered at Twistgates Farm Cottages in pretty beamed cottages with wood burning stoves, and in the stylish Apple Loft, a country chic apartment. For extra guests who want to holiday with you, but not share a cottage, the Orchard Bedroom can be hired on a nightly basis.
