Are you looking for dog friendly cottages in Devon?
Let me introduce myself. I’m Basil, the resident Golden Retriever at Twistgates Farm Cottages, dog friendly self catering holiday cottages in Devon
I’m chief Meeter and Greeter, although from behind a gate. Sometimes people stay here who are not so keen on us canines and I don’t want to upset them.
Devon is a fabulous place for a dog! I live next to the dog friendly holiday cottages so I can keep an eye on things.
I’ve made a lot of friends over the years and it’s very special when they make a return visit.
I can walk from the front door in the gloriously peaceful rolling countryside of the Blackdown Hills, and if I can be persuaded to get in the car, parts of the Jurassic Coast can be reached in under 30 minutes.
Garden Cottage, Meadow Cottage and Weathervane Cottage allow dogs. I’m told that the Apple Loft and Orchard Guest Suite are very comfortable. Unfortunately for me no dog has crossed the thresholds, so I’ll have to take the humans’ word for it.
At the bottom of the drive you can turn left, right, or go straight on, and every direction will take you on an interesting walk. My favourite is along the river and up a sunken lane. Sometimes we turn left at the top and head for Upottery village where we’re all welcome at the Sidmouth Arms pub. Another favourite is a circular walk to Churchinford. The York Inn is another pub that gives us a paws-up. I’ve noticed that when we’re in Churchinford my owners make a point of popping into the community store. “Stocking up on locally produced food and drinks” they say.
My all-time best beach is at Exmouth. We park on the seafront and then it’s a hop, skip and a jump straight onto a very long, sandy beach. Absolute bliss to be able to run and run. I like to visit this beautiful part of the southwest in the winter time when not too many people are around..
I like a good sniff around gardens and Burrow Farm Gardens is very special as well as near us. Hestercombe and Forde Abbey also are very happy to let us go in with our owners.
They all have very good cafes, as does the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth. Plenty of National Trust properties in the area for good walks, in fact we’re spoilt for choice.
With all this exercise I get pretty tired and in the evenings I like nothing better than to relax in front of a wood burning stove, and luckily for my chums, all the cottages have them too.
So, if you’re hunting for somewhere to take your family on holiday, Twistgates Farm Cottages could be for you. They are dog friendly self catering holiday cottages in Devon.
Located very near the borders of Somerset and Dorset provides endless possibilities for exploring new areas.
I am looking forward to meeting you. My owners (Suzanne and Duncan) are too!
