Autumn is one of the many reasons we love living in East Devon and particularly in the Blackdown Hills. Misty mornings can give way to warm sunny days followed by chill evenings and there’s nothing better than a walk with the dogs in the surrounding countryside, looking at the changing colours, spotting fungi and berries as well as seeing the fields being tidied up for the winter, and then returning to light the wood burning stove and settle in for the evening.

We’ve picked our apples and they are ready to be sent to Bloomberry Juice to be used in their delicious drinks and there are home grown vegetables to be harvested and turned into warming soups and casseroles, fruit pies and crumbles to make as well as carving out a pumpkin for Halloween celebrations.

Basil guarding the apples!

The main holiday season may be finished but we’re still open for business. Half term is coming up and Christmas and New Year are on the horizon so we’ve been busy collecting plenty of information about what is going on in the area to pass to our guests staying in the self catering holiday cottages and in the Apple Loft at Twistgates Farm.
