Something planned well in advance or a last minute spontaneous must-get-away-from-it all escape?
As the nights draw in and Autumn approaches it’s the ideal time to step back from the hurly burly of everyday life and find yourself a bolt-hole to retreat to.
At Twistgates you can step into a warm and cosy self catering holiday cottage and if it’s dark the lights will be on and the curtains drawn, then all you’ll need to do is light the fire and put the kettle on – we’ll have left you the ingredients to make that all important first cup of tea (or coffee) and a delicious, and very Devon, Cream Tea to go with it.
As you relax you can plan how you’d like to spend your short break (weekends or midweek), there will be plenty of suggestions on hand and we can lend you maps of the local area. Maybe you want to do nothing except read a book, play a game of scrabble or do a jigsaw, listen to music or watch TV – it’s very peaceful in the Blackdown Hills, or perhaps you want to boot up and wander along the paths and lanes that surround us, or take a circular walk to nearby Upottery or Churchinford villages, where you can quench your thirst in the pubs with the locally brewed Otter Ale.
Other ideas? The Jurassic Coast is only a short drive, there are plenty of National Trust properties with gardens to explore, Honiton has antique shops to investigate and cafés to relax in. Exeter is well worth a visit with its magnificent cathedral, RAMM museum and many shops.
However you want to spend your short break we look forward to welcoming you to Twistgates Farm Cottages in the beautiful Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in East Devon.
